Fiji Hotel style accommodations are plentiful throughout the islands, from simple budget beach resorts to large international hotel chains. Most accommodation providers in Fiji refer to themselves as resorts on the basis of having their own restaurant and perhaps a small boutique shop. There are more than 80 holiday beach resorts in Fiji, many of which offer absolute privacy in a secluded spot and accommodating just a handful of guests. Fiji also boasts some of the most exclusive small resorts in the world which frequently win international awards of excellence. The largest Fiji resort caters for only 400 guests and no hotel building is taller than the surrounding coconut trees.

Many resorts offer bure accommodation - individual open plan bungalows built from natural materials to reflect the traditional Fijian home. Bures have thatch roofs, high ceilings and wooden beams. Some of the more exquisite bures have bamboo walls and wooden beams held together by woven coconut rope.

Resorts offering Bures

Most beach resorts in Fiji have plenty of water activities, snorkelling / diving expeditions, kids clubs, swimming pools and sunset bars for cocktails. Fijian feast nights feature at many resorts with traditional dances (mekes) and serenading. Several resorts on Viti Levu host weekly firewalking exhibitions open to the general public. Most resorts also have yaqona drinking (traditional local grog) to bring guests and hosts together for conversations. Nightclubs are not common although the larger resorts sometimes host local live bands, mostly reggae influenced.

Fijians make excellent hosts and are generally very charming to guests and interactive. They are also proud of their culture and will recall local myths, point out natural medicines and show you how they catch a fish and invite you to visit their local village. Fijians are also excellent with children of all ages and will love the attention paid to them by the Fijian resort staff. Their natural charm brings holiday-makers back to Fiji year after year.
